Simulators are high-value resources that drive your training throughput and costs. Adding them correctly—especially setting SIM Slots and core details—ensures XO Scheduler can allocate them efficiently and profitably.
This article walks you through creating a Simulator resource, step by step, with annotated screenshots. If you’re already familiar with adding Instructors, this process will feel very similar.
🛠️ Step-by-Step Guide
Below is a step-by-step guide of adding a New Resource: Simulator.
📸 Disclaimer: Screenshots and videos may look slightly different from your XO Scheduler interface depending on your version or configuration.
1) Start the creation process
Right-click in the Resources area.
Select Create Resource.
2) Choose the resource type
From the list of available types, select Simulator.
3) Open the resource editor
Click to open the input form for the Simulator resource.
4) Understand field requirements
Mandatory fields (marked with *) typically include:
ID (must be unique)
Name
Location
Cost per Hour
SIM Slots
5) Fill in Resource Details
*Note: The entries below are provided as examples. Please replace them with details specific to your own simulator, such as the correct ID, name, location, and internal cost.*
Field | Example Entry | Notes |
ID | SIM-A320-01 | Must be unique within the system. |
Name | A320 Full Flight Sim | This is the simulator’s display name. |
Location | Singapore | Used for location-based scheduling. |
Cost per Hour | 100 | Mandatory — used by the cost optimizer. |
6) Assign SIM Slots
Simulators typically operate within defined SIM Slots (e.g., morning, evening).
Select a SIM Slot set from the dropdown (created by an admin).
Without SIM Slots, XO may treat the simulator as unavailable.
⚠️ Choose SIM Slots OR Work Rules—never both.
7) Leave Work Rules empty
Simulators are non-human resources, so Work Rules do not apply.
8) Save the resource
Click Save.
The new Simulator appears at the top of your list.
Important: Don’t forget to qualify your simulators (e.g., “A320 Certified Device”) so XO can assign them automatically. See: Qualifying Resources.
💡 Pro Tips
Set SIM Slots first: Clarifies when simulators are available.
Check IDs and names: Use a clear, consistent naming convention.
Qualify simulators: Without qualifications, they won’t be scheduled.
